Production: The process of making a media text. 

Distribution: The process of getting a media text to the audience. This include the marketing/promotion and advertising of the product as well as the physical distribution or broadcasting of the text. 

Exchange: The process of an audience 'consuming' a media text, e.g. listening to a radio show, watching a TV programme etc. It also includes the ways in which audiences 'read' as a text and he ways in which the audiences use that text for their own purposes, e.g. audience participation. 

Media Conglomerate: A Media Conglomerate is a company who owns a large number of small companies (subsidiaries). 

Cross Media Conglomerates: A Cross Media Conglomerates is where one type of media company (e.g a magazine company) owns another type of media company (e.g. radio stations).

Examples of Cross Media Conglomerates: 
- Walt Disney Company
- News Corporation 
- CBS 
- Viacom 
- Time Warner

  


An independent company: is one that is not own by a conglomerate

Examples of Independent companies:
- Warp
- Sheffield Live
